iPad Current Market Value Guide (October 2026)
The value of your iPad depends on its generation, storage capacity, connectivity and condition. Prices also change as models age and demand shifts, so a valuation from several months ago may no longer reflect what you could get today.
This guide covers standard Apple iPads, not iPad mini, Air or Pro models.
Our ValueCheck figures are updated daily using live Gadget GoGo trade-in values, so you can check a current price rather than relying on an old estimate.
What Influences the Value of an iPad?
The generation, storage capacity and connectivity of your iPad will all determine how much it’s worth.
Storage is maybe the biggest differentiator. Capacities vary between generations, with some models offering considerably more room for apps, photos and downloads than others. That difference can result in different trade-in prices for devices from the same range.
You’ll also need to know whether yours is Wi-Fi only or supports Wi-Fi + Cellular. Cellular versions can connect to mobile networks as well as wireless internet, which means they’re valued slightly higher than their Wi-Fi counterparts.
Generation is probably the most important. Standard iPads have been released across numerous years, so two tablets simply described as an ‘iPad’ can have very different valuations. Identifying yours is crucial to getting the right valuation.
How to Identify Your iPad
The easiest way to identify your iPad is to check its model number.
If your iPad still works, here’s how to find out:
- Open Settings
- Go to General
- Click About.
Here, you can find useful device information, including the model name, capacity and model number.
Can’t access Settings? Look on the back of the iPad for a model number beginning with A, followed by four digits. You can use this number to determine which generation you have and whether it’s a Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular version. This can be done on the Apple site
Before requesting a quote, check these three details:
- Generation: Which standard iPad model do you own?
- Capacity: How much storage does it have?
- Connectivity: Is it Wi-Fi only or Wi-Fi + Cellular?
Getting these details right means you’re checking the value of your actual iPad rather than a similar-looking model.
Can You Sell a Faulty iPad?
Yes, a faulty iPad can still have value. A cracked screen, touchscreen problem, charging issue or another defect doesn’t necessarily mean you need to write the device off.
Damage can make private selling more difficult, though. An iPad relies heavily on its large touchscreen, so cracks, dead areas or display faults are immediately noticeable to prospective buyers. Problems with the charging port, battery, cameras, speakers or physical buttons can create further uncertainty over what repairs might be needed.
An iPad that won’t switch is an even trickier private sale.
At Gadget GoGo, we buy all types of devices, both broken and fully working. Just mark your device as not working to get an accurate quote from the outset.
Current iPad Resale Prices
Current iPad resale prices vary by generation, specification and working condition. Check the table below to see Gadget GoGo’s latest values for good, poor and non-working devices.
Factors That Affect Your iPad’s Value
Once you know which iPad model you own, condition will then be a big part of its value.
Screen and touchscreen
Cracks, deep scratches, display problems and areas that no longer respond correctly to touch can reduce the amount offered.
Casing and exterior
Dents, damaged corners and heavy scratches show how much wear the tablet has experienced. Everyday signs of use aren’t the same as substantial physical damage, so it’s worth looking at the casing realistically rather than assuming every small mark makes an iPad ‘poor’.
Battery and charging
An iPad needs to hold charge and power up reliably to be considered fully functional. Battery problems or a damaged charging port can therefore change its condition if they prevent normal use.
Cameras, speakers and controls
Smaller faults still matter. Check that the cameras work, audio plays correctly and physical controls respond as expected. A tablet can look perfectly presentable while having a functional issue that affects its final valuation.
Apple account and Activation Lock
Before an iPad changes hands, personal data should be removed and the relevant Apple account disconnected. Activation Lock can prevent a new owner from setting up the tablet, so make sure the device is properly removed from your account as part of preparing it for sale.
iPad Trade-In Services vs Private Selling
A trade-in service gives you a structured route from valuation to payment, while selling privately means finding and dealing with the eventual buyer yourself.
| Trade-In Service | Private Selling |
|---|---|
| Receive a quote based on the device you have | Choose your own asking price |
| No need to find an individual buyer | Wait for somebody interested in your particular model |
| Avoid direct buyer negotiation | Offers and haggling may be part of the sale |
| Device follows a defined inspection process | Buyer expectations need to be managed directly |
| Free shipping options | Arrange collection or postage |
Getting the Most Money for Your iPad
A careful clean can help you see what is dirt and what is genuine wear. Wipe fingerprints and grime from the screen and casing without trying to disguise scratches, dents or other damage.
Once you’re ready to sell, back up anything you want to keep, remove your personal information and disconnect the device from your Apple account.
Timing is worth considering too. Resale values change as iPads get older and the market moves on, so leaving an unused tablet in a drawer for another year won’t necessarily do its price any favours.
